TAG! / TINE TRAPPERS
In the previous Village Hannu Syrjänen (1951, Helsinki), the President and CEO of SanomaWSOY, tagged Tine Trappers to answer the ten infamous questions. Tine (1977) lives in Beerzel (a small village near Mechelen) in Belgium with her boyfriend Jef in a house that they rebuild themselves.
1. What kind of magazine or website is Tine Trappers?
I am a combination of the women’s weeklies Flair and Viva. I am just as warm, open and empathic as Flair, but sometimes I am as naughty as Viva.
2. What is your ‘desert island book’?
Trapped on a desert island I would love to have ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ with me. This book is written by Jonathan Safran Foer. I can read it over and over again and think about the book’s many hidden messages and its beautiful symbolism.
3. What is the brand or line extension that is most appealing to you?
Flair’s shopping day! Watching 80,000 readers enjoy the Flair spirit, the shopping, the presents they receive: I love it!
4. Describe Sanoma Magazines Belgium in one sentence?
Sanoma Magazines Belgium is a company for which employees would literally do everything. And rightfully so!
5. What does a Chef Reportage at Flair do?
Together with the Editor-in-Chief I decide on the reportage items that we will include in Flair each week. Than I will divide them between our journalists, brief them, read the resulting articles and if needed guide them in a certain direction.
6. What kind of work would you be doing if you didn’t have your current job?
I really have no idea. All my life I have only dreamt about a job in magazine publishing. I have never developed a Plan B for myself if it wouldn’t work out. I do not see myself leaving Sanoma any time soon, but if I absolutely had to I would try my hand at teaching. Journalistic courses of course!
7. Who would you like to sit next to in a plane and to what destination?
Bill Clinton! Because I would like to see for myself what tempted Monica. And of course I would also like to know what really happened between those two. I also think that it would be really cool if after the flight he would say in front of TV cameras “I did not have sex with that woman, that Tine Trappers.” Our flight destination? Washington, DC, where it all happened.
8. What success are you most proud of?
As a teenager I already knew exactly what I wanted: to work for a women’s magazine, preferably Flair. I am really proud that I could make that happen, and in my first job as well. I have never worked for someone other than Flair…
9. Describe your biggest failure?
I have kept my boyfriend from accepting a job in a foreign country, because I am too attached to my home and my own job. I do not really consider this a failure (he is just as happy in Belgium), but sometimes I ask myself: “What if? …”
10. What is the one thing that everybody should know about you but nobody does?
I have dreamt for years of running a marathon. (Although I am chronically unsporty and quit every time after just three kilometers.) Tips to motivate me and make sure that I will not give up are VERY welcome!
Tine Trappers tags Hilmar Mulder, former Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the Dutch Cosmopolitan and currently EiC of weekly fashion glossy GRAZIA. Does she really lead such a glamorous life?
