Sanoma Magazines develops media brands reaching out to more than 290 million European and Russian consumers to provide them with desired magazines and digital media and to connect them with advertisers. In 13 different countries, where even more than 13 languages and dialects are spoken. Countries that each have traditions and values that might vary dramatically from one region to another. Because we want to offer services tailored to our customers’ preferences, our portfolio has grown to more than 300 magazines and a multitude of websites. Driven by customer demands, we have also extended our brands into products like books, decorative paint and even a TV-channel. To manage this well, we have organised our division in four businesses with a clear geographic focus.
Sanoma Magazines Belgium (SMB) is responsible for our activities in Belgium. The company operates both in Flanders and in Wallonia, and has built a market leading position in consumer magazines in both areas. SMB is active in niche publishing (small scale publishing focused on special interest topics) through its subsidiary EPN International. EPN magazines are distributed in all Benelux countries and in France. SMB is also active in custom publishing (customer magazines) through its dedicated unit sQills, in digital media, and in TV production through its share in Jok Foe.
Sanoma Magazines Finland (SMF) is responsible for our activities in the Nordics. Today these activities are limited to Finland, in the recent past we’ve had operations in Sweden and Denmark too. Sanoma Magazines Finland is the number one magazine publisher in Finland, with a particularly strong position in women’s and youth magazines. Together with sister divisions Sanoma News and Sanoma Entertainment, Sanoma Magazines Finland has set up Sanoma Digital to build a strong position in digital media as well.
Sanoma Magazines International (SMI) is responsible for our activities in Central and South Eastern Europe, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The company is active in ten operating countries through wholly-owned operations and joint ventures. Through our Russian subsidiary Independent Media Sanoma Magazines some of our Russian magazines are also licensed to local publishers in Kazakhstan and Georgia. In all of SMI’s operating countries, the company is actively building its market position in both magazines as well as digital media.
Sanoma Uitgevers (‘Sanoma Publishers’) is responsible for our activities in the Netherlands. Sanoma Uitgevers has three subsidiaries, each dedicated to particular business activities. Woonbeurs Amsterdam ('Living Fair Amsterdam') organises fairs and events like the largest Dutch home deco fair. Mood for Magazines publishes glossy magazines including the country’s leading personality magazine. The third subsidiary Sanoma Digital the Netherlands is the leading domestic internet company.
