Sanoma Budapest acquires comparison site Olcsobbat.hu

Budapest 9 September 2009 - Sanoma Budapest has acquired Olcsobbat.hu, one of the important comparison websites in Hungary. Together with Sanoma Budapest’s other comparison site, Kirakat.hu, Olcsobbat.hu will strengthen the position of Sanoma Budapest in this particular market. Both Kirakat.hu as well as Olcsobbat.hu will continue to operate as two separate brands.

Olcsóbbat, meaning ‘cheaper’ in Hungarian, was launched as a website in 2005. The website was the first price and product comparison portal with its own store rating system. The website reaches almost 350,000 people every month, and has 348,000 unique users (source: Medián Webaudit, May 2009). All in all, Olcsobbat.hu features 51,000 product information sheets, listing durable consumer goods such as notebooks, mobile handsets and household appliances.

One of the main reasons for Sanoma Budapest to acquire Olcsobbat.hu is that the company is looking to expand its e-commerce activities. Olcsobbat.hu has its own database, and, compared to other comparison sites, has the most stable technical background and the best growth potential.

Sanoma Budapest will continue to operate Kirakat.hu and Olcsobbat.hu as two independent brands. Both comparison sites will keep their own characteristics and be developed separately. At the same time, Sanoma Budapest will aim for efficiency synergies in the future development of its comparison sites.
