SU appoints Michiel Buitelaar as COO Digital Media

Hoofddorp, 12 June 2008 – Starting 15 August 2008, Michiel Buitelaar (45) is appointed as Chief Operations Officer Digital Media at Sanoma Uitgevers. He will replace Paul Molenaar who resigned recently. Buitelaar will take on the responsibility for all digital media activities of Sanoma Uitgevers in The Netherlands.

He has extensive media knowledge and experience, gained in diverse executive roles, amongst others at Ben, Orange, KPN and Endemol. Currently, Buitelaar is Senior Executive Director at Endemol, the global audiovisual entertainment company. Prior to this he was Director Consumer Market at Dutch telecom operator KPN and responsible for all of KPN’s television and internet activities (amongst which Planet, XS4all, Het Net). Under his directorship KPN’s market share in broadband internet doubled.

In his new role of COO Digital Media Buitelaar will be responsible for all digital media activities of Sanoma Uitgevers in The Nederlands, including all activities of ilse media. Together with CEO Dick Molman and COO Print Henk Scheenstra Buitelaar will form the management of Sanoma Uitgevers.

He is enthusiastic about his appointment: “I have been asked to shape the digital direction of Sanoma Uitgevers further. This is a very interesting challenge in such an ambitious company. I am looking forward at my hands-on role at Sanoma Uitgevers. The combination of magazines with the online assets of ilse media is a formidable base that we can gain more from in the coming years.”
