Belgrade, 24 October 2006 – The Serbian edition of National Geographic Magazine is launched. The first Serbian issue of the legendary monthly magazine, telling about the different achievements of human knowledge, has been available to its readers from October 25, 2006 onwards. With the launch of National Geographic Serbia, the number of its local editions throughout the globe will reach 29.
The unique photographs and thoughtful articles will appear in the Serbian edition along with their publishing in other editions of the magazine worldwide. According to the editorial concept of National Geographic Magazine, all national editions receive the most important content of the magazine at the same time. Its exclusive photos and exciting articles, which take months to prepare, are the work of many teams of researchers, photographers and journalists participating in tough scientific and photographic expeditions throughout the planet. National Geographic Magazine provides abundant information aboutdifferent nations and cultures, as well as nature, science and new technologies.
Apart from providing key international coverage, National Geographic Serbia will give our best photographers and journalists the opportunity to elaborate on interesting Serbian topics.The editor-in-chief of National Geographic Serbia is Igor Rill. He is a 35 year old art historian from Belgrade and highly experienced in all editorial fields. “A dream has come true: National Geographic Magazine finally in the Serbian language,” said Igor Rill.
The magazine has enlisted some of the most prominent Serbian scientists as consulting experts. The launch of the Serbian language edition of National Geographic broadens the international scope of the magazine, which is famous for its reports, photographs and maps.
National Geographic has been published in English since 1888; its international editions now include also Spanish, Italian, Greek, Hebrew, French, German, Polish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovenian, Bulgarian, Bahasa, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Korean. The magazine has a total circulation of more than 8.5 million copies and is sold all over the world.
